Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas Wednesday congratulated the new Pope Francis for his election as head of the Catholic church and invited him to visit the biblical city of Bethlehem, according to a statement issued by his office, DPA reported.
Abbas, who is on an official visit to Moscow, expressed hope that the new pope will work for peace in the Holy Land and invited him to visit Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus Christ, said the statement.
