UN chief requests probe on alleged Syria chemical weapon use
United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon called for a prompt investigation into the latest alleged chemical weapon attack in Syria, a UN spokesman said Thursday.
"The secretary general believes that the incidents reported yesterday need to be investigated without delay," said spokesman Eduardo del Buey, dpa reported.
Ban asked the government of Syria to allow UN experts already in the country access to the site where poisonous gas was allegedly used against rebel forces on Wednesday.
He also instructed UN Under-Secretary General Angela Kane to travel to Damascus.
