Turkey has strongly condemned the murder of a Palestinian teenager in Jerusalem and called for the Israeli government to stop their "punitive" action against Palestinians anadolu Agency reported

A statement released by the Foreign Ministry on Thursday said: "Turkey strongly condemns this brutal murder that was apparently committed in revenge after the kidnapped Israeli teens were killed."

Muhammad Hussein Abu Khdeir, 17, was found murdered just hours after he was kidnapped on Wednesday. His killing is widely believed to have been carried out in revenge for the murder of three missing Israeli teens whose bodies were found on Monday.

Tension between Israel and Palestine has been high since the students - Eyal Yifrah, 19, Gilad Shaar, 16, and Naftali Fraenkel, 16 - went missing last month, with mass arrests of Palestinians in the West Bank.

The statement continued: "The use of excessive force, which is extremely punitive against the Palestinian people, should be ended immediately."

The murder has caused indignation in Turkey and it expects the murderers to be arrested soon, the ministry added.

In the Gaza Strip, Israeli warplanes launched several strikes early Thursday, leaving at least ten Palestinians injured.
