The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) has imposed monthly taxes on students in Mosul, according to a statement from the Iraqi Human Rights Ministry Anadolu Agency reported
"ISIL militants have placed a monthly tax on students: Elementary school students must pay 25,000 Iraqi dinar ($22) per month, secondary school students are taxed 50,000 Iraqi dinars ($43) per month and university students must pay 75,000 Iraqi dinar ($65) per month in Mosul," the statement said.
The militants also banned education of women by men, and for men by women, and required all students to wear uniforms.
Separately, ISIL militants kidnapped 30 young men in al-Alam town of Saladin province, blew up seven judges' homes in the Beled district, and burned Ezidis' homes in the Sinjar district.
Since mid-June, fighting in Iraq has pitted the Iraqi army and Kurdish peshmerga forces against ISIL militants, who are currently in control of large swathes of territory in Iraq and Syria.
The U.S. is leading an international coalition, which includes France, Germany, and Saudi Arabia, and has carried out numerous airstrikes against ISIL in Iraq and Syria.
According to the U.N., an estimated 1.8 million citizens have been internally displaced this year throughout Iraq.
