The Saudi-led coalition's airstrikes took down a series of telecommunications targets in Yemen, a source in the crisis-hit nation's Transport Ministry told Sputnik on Thursday.

As the Arab coalition's Decisive Storm campaign entered its third week, its jets destroyed television towers in neighboring cities of Saada and Amran, in addition to the capital Sanaa, the source said.

It is unknown whether the airstrike led to casualties among the local population.

The official added that the latest attack was aimed at isolating Shiite Houthi rebels that captured substantial parts of the country, leading to the shutdown of the Internet and disruptions in telecommunications across the three northwest Yemeni cities.

The latest World Health Organization figures estimate nearly 650 people have died and over 2,200 injured since the escalation of violence in mid-March.

The coalition aims to curb the Houthis' advances in the country and restore the presidency of Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, who fled to Saudi Arabia during ongoing clashes.
