The U.S and Turkey make efforts to resume the Israel-Syria negotiations, U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East George Mitchell was quoted as saying by the TRT Russian web site.

In his interview with the American PBS television channel Mitchell also touched upon the negotiations between Israel and Syria.

He said Syria wanted Turkey's mediation in talks with Israel while Israel preferred direct talks.

"Presently, we have not found a formula that would enable them get into the negations, but we will continue our mission," Mitchell said.

"We are in touch with Ankara. I'm going to visit the United States and Israel to achieve progress in this matter, "he added.

The Israel-Syria negotiations ceased mainly due to continued Israeli occupation of the Golan Height and Syria's support to Hezbollah and Hamas.
