U.S. warns Israel about negotiations with Palestinians

The U.S. warned Israel about the need to hold negotiations with the Palestinians, although Israel is not responding, the TRT Russian Web site reported.

U.S. President Barack Obama's representative to the Middle East George Mitchell recently discussed the need to impose economic sanctions against Israel and Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said the Palestinian Authority is responsible for the failed negotiations.

Mitchell said in his statement last week on PBS that the U.S. may stop providing Israel with preferential loans worth several billion dollars.

However, Mitchell added that they will try to persuade Israel to hold the talks before doing so.

Meanwhile, Netanyahu said Israel makes every effort to resume the peace process, but the Palestinians do not want to sit at the negotiation table.

The U.S. demands that Israel cease its settlements in the Palestinian territories. However, Israel is continuing to expand Jewish settlements.
