Clashes resumed Wednesday for the second day running between Palestinian stone throwers and Israeli soldiers at Qalandia checkpoint, halfway between Jerusalem and Ramallah, witnesses said.

They said dozens of Palestinians gathered at the checkpoint and barraged Israeli soldiers with rocks. The soldiers responded by firing tear gas canisters and rubber bullets, injuring at least 17 people, reported Red Crescent medical officials, dpa reported.

Similar but less intense clashes took place at Shufat refugee camp, north of Jerusalem. There were no reports of anyone hurt.

Clashes were also reported Wednesday in a few other locations in the West Bank, mainly in the Hebron area in the south, with reports of several light injuries.

Jerusalem was relatively quiet on Wednesday after Palestinians had observed a "day of rage" to protest Israeli measures in the occupied section of the city.

Almost 100 Palestinians were injured, most of them lightly, on Tuesday and police arrested more than 60 during clashes that took place at different East Jerusalem hot spots.

Israeli police removed barricades to the Old City and al-Aqsa Mosque, allowing free movement of people after five days of restrictions aimed at curbing the unrest. Tourists were also allowed into the al-Aqsa Mosque plaza.
