Israeli President Shimon Peres made a brief visit to Jordan on Monday, where he discussed the stalled peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians with King Abdullah dpa reported

The two leaders addressed "ways of surmounting the obstacles that impede the revival of peace talks between the Palestinians and the Israelis on the base of the two-state vision," a royal court statement said.

King Abdullah told Peres that Israel should stop settlement building in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, land that the Palestinians want for a future state.

The talks have been stalled for over a year. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has said Israel must halt settlement building before talks can resume, a condition rejected by Israel.

The meeting came after the Jordanian monarch visited the West Bank last week and held talks with Abbas.

King Abdullah is also expected to visit Germany on Tuesday for talks with Chancellor Angela Merkel that will focus on the peace process and the Arab Spring uprisings.
