Two Palestinians were killed Saturday night and three others injured as Israel intensified its airstrikes on the Gaza Strip after militants fired a barrage of rockets on Israel, medical sources said, Xinhua reported.

The sources said Ali Ben Sa'eed and Mohamed Eweidat were killed and three brothers were injured in an Israeli airstrike on a motorbike east of the central Gaza town of Deir el-Ballah.

Ashraf al-Qedra, the spokesman of the Hamas-run ministry of health, confirmed that two Palestinians were killed in a series of Israeli airstrikes on various areas in the enclave and more than six people were injured.

Al-Qedra added that the death toll since Wednesday climbed to 42, including 14 civilians, and 440 others were wounded. He expected that the casualties will increase while Israel is continuing its airstrikes on the enclave.

Witnesses said Israeli war jets struck various targets Saturday night all over Gaza.

Hamas armed wing al-Qassam Brigades said in leaflets emailed to reporters that its militants fired several rockets Saturday night on the Israeli cities of Ashkelon and Tel Aviv.
