( Reuters ) - Israeli troops killed a Palestinian militant during a raid in the southern Gaza Strip on Wednesday, Islamist Hamas and local medics said.
An Israeli army spokeswoman confirmed that troops were operating inside the Hamas-controlled territory close to the border with Israel, but did not give further details.
A Hamas source said Israeli army forces were operating east of Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip. Israel frequently conducts cross-border raids in an effort to quell rocket fire by militants into southern Israel.
