( dpa ) - Two Islamic Hamas militants were killed and six wounded on Saturday night in an Israeli airstrike on a Hamas military base in southern Gaza Strip, medics and witnesses said.
The witnesses said an Israeli aircraft fired two missiles at the military base belonging to Hamas armed wing al-Qassam Brigades east of the southern Gaza Strip town of Khan Younis.
They said that two explosions were heard in the area, and then ambulances and rescue teams arrived at the scene and evacuated the casualties.
Medics at Nasser Hospital in the town of Khan Younis said that two of the six injured were in serious condition.
An Israeli army spokesman confirmed the airstrike on Hamas base, saying an armed cell that fired mortars at Israel was hit.
