( dpa ) - Three Palestinians were killed and three more wounded Thursday night in a fresh Israeli airstrike in the northern city of Beit Lahiya in the Gaza Strip, witnesses and medics said.

The witnesses said the missile was apparently aimed at a car, but struck a cart pulled by a horse, killing three, including a mother and her son. The Israeli military had no immediate comment.

This raised the number of people killed in Gaza Thursday to five, after earlier in the day a Palestinian militant and his wife were killed in an airstrike.

Gaza's chief of emergency and ambulance service, Moawia Hassanein, said 30 Palestinians were killed in Gaza and the West Bank since Tuesday.

Israel has said that the intensive airstrikes on Gaza are targeting militants involved in rocket fire into Israel.

Over 20 rockets were fired at southern Israel by Thursday evening, bringing to over 120 the number of projectiles fired since Tuesday.
