Israel Materials 22 January 2008 15:35 (UTC +04:00)

Israel, Jerusalem / Trend corr. R.Abdullayev / Ehud Barak, the Israeli Defense Minister, will pay a visit to Paris on 22 January. Barak will meet with Nikola Sarkozy, the French President, Bernar Kushner, Foreign Minister, and Erv Morin, the Defence Minister, NEWSRU reports.

Barak is planning to take part in the International Economic Forum in Davos on 25 January. Furthermore, Barak will meet with Tony Blair, a special representative of the quartet of sponsors of the Middle East peace process, as well as Salam Fayad, the Palestinian Prime Minister.

The UN Security Council is to discuss the current situation in the gas sector. Previously Israel reduced the fuel supply and the Palestinians talked about suspending the function of the electric station and the shortage of electricity and automobile fuel.

The decision by Israel to impose gas sanctions due to uninterrupted bombing caused alarm amongst the European Union states, including France. Barak may probably try to convince the French State of the necessity for sanctions on the threshold of discussions by UN Security Council.
