Israeli and Palestinian officials say their chief negotiators will give a rare joint briefing on the state of peace talks at a Mideast summit in Egypt next week, the Associated Press reported.

Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor says Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni will lead Israel's delegation.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and his chief negotiator, Ahmed Qureia, will head the Palestinian side.

The gathering is being sponsored by the so-called Quartet of Mideast peace makers - the United States, European Union, United Nations and Russia.

Israeli and Palestinian officials say Livni and Qureia will together brief the Quartet representatives on their

progress after nearly a year of peace talks.
