Netanyahu: Israel wants 'understanding' with US

Israel's prime minister says he will try to work out his country's policy disagreements with the U.S. in meetings this week with high-profile American envoys, Associated Press reported.

Netanyahu is set to meet this week with Mideast peace envoy George Mitchell, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, National Security Adviser James Jones and top Iran and Mideast specialist Dennis Ross.

The U.S. administration is trying to get Israel to freeze construction in its West Bank settlements and to shelve plans for an attack on Iran's nuclear program.

Netanyahu says there are "naturally" differences of opinion between Israel and the U.S., but that the sides are "trying to reach an understanding."

He spoke ahead of his Cabinet's weekly meeting Sunday.
