Joint German-Israeli cabinet meeting scheduled for January 18

An historic joint cabinet meeting of Israeli and German ministers in Berlin is scheduled for January 18, a German government spokesman said on Tuesday, DPA reported.

The talks were postponed from their original date in November, when Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu fell ill.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Netanyahu will jointly lead the meeting, due to be attended by key cabinet members from both countries, including the foreign and defence ministers.

There has been only one previous joint cabinet meeting of the two nations, in March 2008 in Jerusalem during a visit by German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

The countries agreed at the time to hold similar ministerial consultations on a regular basis.
