Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip launched a rocket at Israel Thursday, killing a Thai worker - the first fatality from a rocket fired from the salient since the end of Israel's offensive in the Gaza Strip 14 months ago, officials said, DPA reported.
Israel has in the past retaliated harshly for any rocket-induced death, and the Gaza Strip has been relatively quiet for the past year
The rocket was launched as European Union Foreign Affairs Supremo Catherine Ashton was entering the Gaza Strip on a rare visit to the salient by a top European diplomat.
It was the third rocket attack in 12 hours, and Israeli military spokeswoman said.
Around 30 projectiles from the Gaza Strip have been launched at Israel since the beginning of the year.
