New tensions erupted along the flashpoint Israel-Lebanese border Tuesday, as Israeli and Lebanese forces exchanged fire, DPA reported.
Lebanese security sources said an Israeli tank fired a shell towards a house in the southern Lebanon border village of Adyisseh, prompting the Lebanese army to return fire.
A Lebanese army source told the German Press Agency dpa that 10 Israeli artillery shells fell near an army post in Adissyeh.
Initial reports indicated that a Lebanese civilian and a soldier were injured in the clash.
Israel Radio said soldiers working on the Israeli side of the border were told by Lebanese soldiers that they were in Lebanese territory. When the Israelis replied they were inside Israel, they came under fire.
Reports that at least one Katyusha rocket had landed in Israel proved to be false, the radio said.
A Lebanese army source said the clash broke out after the Israeli army tried to cut some trees inside Lebanese territory.
He added that all army units in southern were put on full alert.
The source added that the Israeli tank was spotted inside the Lebanese territory.
UN sources in southern Lebanon said that they were checking the incident and the Israeli army said it too was clarifying what had happened.
