Turkey is sending a delegation to a conference of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) later this month in East Jerusalem, Hürriyet Daily News & Economic Review website reports. A representative of the Culture and Tourism Ministry, Ozgur Ozaslan, will represent Turkey at the OECD conference Oct. 20-22.

Ankara's participation in the conference on sustainable tourism is seen as surprising amid the ongoing political tension between the two countries following the Gaza War and Israel's deadly raid on a Gaza-bound aid flotilla with many Turks on board.

The Palestinian Authority has demanded that the European Union shun the October conference in East Jerusalem, which according to international law also is part of the occupied territories. Britain and Spain have already stated that they will not participate in the OECD Conference.
