Jerusalem resident attempts to ram Jimmy Carter's convoy
An Arab resident of East Jerusalem on Thursday evening attempted to drive his car into the convoy carrying former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, RIA Novosti reported according to the Jerusalem Post.
Carter was travelling in Jerusalem neighborhood together with some other members of the Elders, a group of retired world leaders, who are currently in the Middle East on a second peace mission to the region.
The collision was prevented by timely and efficient actions of the security personnel.
"Security personnel drew their weapons on the driver and police forces were called to the scene," Jerusalem Post said.
The driver was detained, while the convoy continued on its way, the paper said.
The Elders earlier met the Mayor of Jerusalem to convey their concerns about Israeli settlement building in the city and the discrimination of the Palestinian-Arab population of the city.
