Israel authorizes construction in East Jerusalem settlement
An Israeli planning committee advanced a plan Wednesday to build 69 housing units in the East Jerusalem settlement of Har Homa, Israel Radio reported, dpa informed.
The Jerusalem municipality said the construction project was not new and had already passed earlier planning stages.
Palestinian officials condemned the latest authorization as a "message" to US Secretary of State John Kerry, who is in the midst of an intense bid to revive long-stalled Middle East peace negotiations.
Kerry is scheduled to start another round of shuttle diplomacy Thursday between Jerusalem and the central West Bank city of Ramallah. The visit is his fifth since he took office in February.
