ASEAN joins calls for resumption of Mideast peace talks
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations backed calls for Israel and Palestine to resume peace negotiations Sunday, dpa reported.
"We called on all parties to make efforts for the resumption of the peace talks," the 10-nation bloc said after its foreign ministers met in Brunei's capital.
ASEAN also called for the removal of obstacles including "illegal settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories."
Peace talks between Israel and Palestine fell through in 2010 in a dispute over settlements constructed by Israel in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem that the Palestinians want for a future independent state.
