Lithuanian border guards on Sunday seized a minibus that about to cross the border into Russia with a bomb attached to its bottom, Lithuania's Border Guard said.

"Border guards who were checking the papers of a Volkswagen Transporter minibus whose driver was a 48-year-old resident of Kaunas [ Lithuania] found suspicious wires in the back of the vehicle that were leading to an object fixed under the left-hand front side panel," spokesman Gedrius Misutis told Interfax .

Traffic through the checkpoint where the incident occurred was suspended and terrorism experts were called in. They found a bomb attached to the bottom of the minibus and defused it, Misutis said.

The minibus and its driver were handed over to the police.

Traffic through the checkpoint resumed in the afternoon.
