Ukrainian FM urges compliance with democratic norms in Georgia

( Itar-Tass ) - The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Thursday Ukraine keeps a watchful eye on developments in Georgia.

"We proceed from an assumption that all actions should take place within the framework of the Constitution and in compliance with democratic norms and standards," the statement said.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry urges "restraint and inadmissibility of steps that will provoke escalation of tensions, and calls for the restoration and development of a constructive dialogue between the parties."

"This is the key to improvement of the situation and ensuring of stability and peace in the country," the statement said.

The ministry believes that the events in Tbilisi "is Georgia's domestic affairs" and "confirms its readiness to provide assistance in the hour of trial for Georgian democracy."

Ukraine has urgently sent Deputy Foreign Minister Konstantin Yeliseyev to Tbilisi, the statement said.
