Death toll in Kazan household gas blast rises to seven (video)

( RIA Novosti ) - Seven people, including a child, died in a household gas blast in a residential building in Kazan, the capital of the Russian Volga republic of Tatarstan, a local rescue team spokesman said Wednesday.

The blast occurred at 0:26 a.m. Moscow time (9:26 p.m. GMT) destroying a section of a three-story building. The fire that followed the explosion was stamped out within an hour.

One of the victims, Nadezhda Korochkina, 56, died of wounds in hospital while the body of another woman was pulled from the debris earlier.

Rescue teams working at the scene said up to 15 victims could still be in the building.

An investigation is underway.
