Two Italian tourists killed in Egyptian road accident

( dpa ) - Two Italian tourists were killed and 25 others injured Wednesday evening when a bus they were riding overturned on a highway in north-west Egypt, a police official said.

The tourist bus was traveling on the highway between the Mediterranean cities of Alexandria and Marsa Matruh when the driver lost control of the wheel, causing the bus to overturn, the official said.

No further details were immediately available.

The wounded tourists were transferred to hospital for treatment in the town of Hamam.

Approximately 6,000 people die in automobile accidents in Egypt annually. Dangerous driving, poorly maintained roads and an absence of strict traffic regulations are frequently causes of deadly accidents.
