The United States are to sign a contract with Saudi Arabia for the supply of armaments to the sum of $20bln, George Bush declared at the meeting with head of Saudi Arabia, King Abdullah, in Riyadh on 15 January, Lenta.ru quoted Associated Press. Bush is currently visiting the Middle East and has already visited Israel, Palestine, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates.
Details of the military contract between the United States and Saudi Arabia have not yet been disclosed except that the contract is large and includes various armaments, including high-precision bombs, vessels and the latest air fighters. The contract was declared by the White House as a part of a plan to counteract the possible threat from Iran.
The US Congress has 30 days in which to accept the contract. Previously many Congressmen had voiced their doubts as to the necessity of the contract.
