( dpa )- A thief who stole a bag of bread rolls from a restaurant before accidentally blasting his accomplice with a sawn-off shotgun was jailed by a Melbourne court Tuesday.

Benjamin Jorgensen, 38, shot Donna Hayes, 36, during a bungled April Fool's Day robbery last year.

The pair thought the bag held the day's takings of 30,000 Australian dollars (25,000 US dollars).

Jorgensen was jailed for 7 years and Hayes for 8 years.

The pair, who had pleaded guilty to armed robbery, were told by Judge Roland Williams that their incompetence didn't make the crime any less serious.

"I've heard of the keystone cops - this is keystone robbers," Williams told the court.
