(dpa) - A former Socialist councillor was shot and wounded Friday in the Basque town of Arrasate two days before Spain's general elections, officials said.
The victim was believed to have been shot several times on the street. He was reported in serious condition.
The Spanish government had raised terrorism alert in view of a possible attack by the militant Basque separatist group ETA.
