Brad Pitt is to star in and produce an adventure movie about an intrepid British explorer who undertakes an expedition in the Amazon in search of a lost city of gold, Variety reported Tuesday. ( dpa )
The movie will be based on an article by David Grann in the New Yorker magazine called The Lost City of Z, and a forthcoming book of the same name which tells the story of British explorer Colonel Percy Harrison Fawcett.
Fawcett was attempting to find the so-called City of Z when he and his party disappeared in 1925.
Over the following 70 years, scores of explorers tried and failed to retrace Fawcett's path, including a 1996 expedition of Brazilian adventurers. Pitt would play Fawcett - who some believe he actually found the lost city and established a secret commune there.
