( dpa ) - Roma captain Francesco Totti faces a lengthy layoff following a knee injury suffered Saturday during a Serie A game his side drew 1-1 with guests Livorno.
Repubblica.it reported that Totti, 31, damaged the cruciate ligament in his right knee. He is to be operated next week and may have to be sidelined for up to five months.
Totti appears to have sustained the injury after firing a firm shot from outside the area, which caused him to grimace with pain before being stretchered off the pitch.
The striker is Roma's top scorer with 14 goals.
