Mariah Tops Us Album Chart With Career-Best Sales

( CM ) - Mariah Carey has topped the US album chart with the best first-week sales of her remarkable career.

Carey's new album E=MC2 sold 463,000 copies in its first week on general release and knocked Britain's Leona Lewis off the top of the chart, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The figures are also the best first-week sales by any artist in 2008, trouncing Jack Johnson's Sleep Through Static, which sold 375,000 copies back in February.

In the rest of this week's chart, Leona's Spirit fell to number two after selling 95,000 units, half the number of sales from the album's first week.

Miley Cyrus charted at number three with Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: The Best of Both Worlds Concert.

E=MC2 is Mariah's sixth US number one album and the first single to be taken from it, Touch My Body, recently topped the US singles chart.

It was the 18th she has topped the chart with in her career.
