The Spanish government says the crew of a fishing boat hijacked by pirates off the coast of Somalia has been freed.
Deputy prime minister Maria Teresa Fernandez de la Vega says the 26 crew members of the Playa de Bakio, a 76-meter (250-foot) vessel from Spain's Basque region, are sailing back home.
De la Vega says the release was achieved through negotiation. She added Saturday that Spain has also taken steps to try to reduce piracy of the lawless Horn of Africa.
De la Vega said the ship owners and the Spanish government collaborated to find a successful end to the hijacking.
