Florida police said
Wednesday they had arrested a man in connection with a wildfire that they
believe was set by an arsonist.
Firefighters have been able to contain many of the more than 100 wildfires
across 6,500 hectares in the state that have destroyed 22 homes and damaged 160
others.
Police suspected arson in several of the blazes, and on Wednesday said in a
televised press conference that they had arrested a man who a witness allegedly
saw throw an object out of a car into a forest, shortly before a small fire
broke out. They caught the 31-year-old man in connection with the incident
after a long chase.
He was being held on probation violation charges and no arson charges had yet
been filed, police said, dpa reported.
