Australian Open finalist Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has been forced to withdraw from the French Open with a continuing knee injury, officials confirmed on Saturday, dpa reported.
The number 14 is now due for surgery on a meniscus on Tuesday, which could keep him off the court for some time.
Tsonga picked up the injury in March and did not play for a month in hopes it would improve.
He had to quit before a semi-final on Friday in Casablanca against compatriot Gilles Simon due to the knee worry.
Earlier in the day former world number four German Nicolas Kiefer had to withdraw because of a throat infection.
