Ivanovic beats Safina for French Open title
Ana Ivanovic of Serbia defeated Russian
Dinara Safina 6-4, 6-3 to win the women's French Open title on Saturday.
The second-seeded Ivanovic, 20, won her first career Grand Slam trophy on the third attempt in a final. She took 1 hour 38 minutes to defeat Safina, who was the 13 seed playing in her first final at the majors.
Ivanovic will also be the new top ranked women when the next WTA rankings are released on Monday, dethroning Russian Maria Sharapova, dpa reported.
