First result declared in Irish Lisbon vote

The first result has been declared in Ireland's referendum on the EU's Lisbon Treaty, with a win for the no side, national broadcaster RTE reported Friday.

The constituency of Waterford in the south-east of the country voted by 20,812 to 17,502, or 54.3 per cent to 45.7 per cent, against the treaty, reporte dpa.

The turnout was 53.4 per cent.
