A member of the al-Qaeda terrorist network
was killed and another 15 were arrested when US forces discovered a hideout of
the organization, the US military said on Saturday.
In a statement, the US military said forces uncovered a hideout of the al-Qaeda
near Biaj area, some 130 kilometres south-east of the northern city of Mosul.
The location contained "a dozen of bedrolls, stockpiled food, men's
clothing and signs that it was a terrorist hideout," read the statement,
reported dpa.
US forces shot a man who refused to follow the instructions to surrender.
Meanwhile, US forces detained 15 suspected terrorists around Mosul on Friday
and Saturday, the statement said.
Separately, Khalid Abdul-Sattar, spokesman of Nineveh's operations, told the
Voices of Iraq (VOI) news agency that the Iraqi army discovered a weapons cache
in one of the houses located in central Mosul. The city is some 400 kilometres north of Baghdad.
Abdul-Sattar said that army forces conducted an inspection operation in Mosul's Farouq area, where a large weapons cache was discovered.
