European Union leaders agreed to go ahead with the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty in spite of Ireland's rejection of the text, diplomats said Friday.

"The European Council (of ministers) noted that the parliaments of 19 member states have ratified the treaty and that the ratification process continues in other countries," a draft text of the summit's conclusions seen by Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa said.

Leaders also agreed to add a footnote pointing out that ratification in the Czech Republic was subject to the approval of the country's constitutional court, reported dpa.
