Brazilian football legend Pele was robbed by juvenile attackers on a road along the southern coast of the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo near the resort of Guaruja, Brazilian media reported Monday citing Pele's manager, the dpa reported.

The attack happened Friday, and the robbers recognized Pele, 67.

The former football player was in the back seat of his car, which was being driven by a professional driver. The vehicle was reportedly surrounded by about 10 young people armed with guns and knives, who Pele described as possibly under the influence of drugs.

The attackers took a gold chain, a mobile phone and a valuable watch belonging to the football legend, who did not resist. The thieves had also intended to rob the driver, but returned his possessions when they realized it was Pele in the back seat.

Like most Brazilian crime victims, Pele reportedly did not report the attack to the police.
