Prisoners of War Exchanged with Georgia Today: Deputy Chief of Russian General Staff

Russia, Moscow, 19 August / Trend corr. R.Agayev / Exchange of war of prisoners took place on 19 August, Nogovitsin, the deputy chief of the Russian General Staff said at a briefing in Moscow on 19 August.

At the night of 8 August, large-scale military operations were launched in the self-declared South Ossetia republic. The Georgian troops entered Tskhinvali. Later the Russian troops entered the city and drove the Georgian forces back to the Georgian territory.

On 12 August, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev announced that he has decided to end operations to compel Georgia to peace.

"At 10.30 a.m. on 19 August, prisoners of war were exchanged and we received five people with two of them bein pilots," Nogovitsin said.

The exchange took place at Igoeti in Gori Region, approximately 40km of Tbilisi.
