US airstrike kills at least four in north-west Pakistan

At least four people were killed on Thursday in a suspected US airstrike in Pakistan's tribal area along the Afghan border, media reports said.

Three guided missiles hit a house in Sam Kunigram area of South Waziristan tribal district, which is believed to have safe havens for al-Qaeda and Taliban militants launching cross-border attacks on US-led international forces in Afghanistan, reproted dpa.

US drones were seen flying over the area following the strike, as scores of Islamist militants cordoned off the destroyed house belonging to a local tribesman Ghazi Khan Mehsud, English language DawnNews television channel reported while citing security officials and locals.

At least four people were killed and five injured in the aerial attack, the report said further.

The attack occurred in the area that is the stronghold of the head of Pakistan Taliban Movement, an umbrella organization of several militant groups in lawless tribal region and neighboring North West Frontier province.

Aaj news channel reported that a vehicles was also targeted by the pilotless aircraft.
