The head of the Lebanese Shiite movement
Hezbollah's international relations department Saturday accused Terje Roed-
Larsen, UN Special Representative for the implementation of Security Council
Resolution 1559, of siding with Israel against Lebanon,
dpa reported.
Nawaf Mousawi charged that Roed-Larsen's "background and goals are
well known, that he works to please the Israeli side by carrying their demands
and presenting them as though they were requests urged by the international
community
"This employee (Roed-Larsen) ignores the Israeli violations of Lebanese
sovereignty," Mousawi added.
The Lebanese army said on Friday 12 Israeli warplanes had violated the
country's airspace by flying reconnaissance missions over northern and southern
Lebanon.
"It seems that he forgets that Hezbollah is a basic component of the
Lebanese government, whose cabinet statement has clearly stated the legitimacy
of the resistance away from any unjust description of a militia," Mousawi
said of the UN official Roed-Larsen.
"It is the Israeli aggression that has destroyed the authority of
successive Lebanese governments. What has restored state authority is the
presence of a powerful and effective resistance capable of thwarting Israeli
aggression and it goals," he said.
On Thursday, Road-Larsen briefed the Security Council on Secretary-General Ban
Ki-moon's eighth report on resolution 1559 which was adopted in 2004.
The resolution includes demands for pullout of Syrian forces from Lebanon, the
disarmament of all militias including Hezbollah and the extension of government
authority throughout the country.
