U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has urged Bangladesh's poor people who are victims of frequent floods and other natural disasters not to lose hopes in their struggle against impacts of climate change, the Associated Press reported.
"Don't lose hope," Ban told a group of villagers who have over years been forced to leave their ancestral homes to flee the devastation of annual floods in this remote area in northern Bangladesh.
Ban who is on a two-day official visit in Bangladesh made the comment as he toured the northern region to see some U.N.-funded climate change adaptation schemes. The area he visited is 104 kilometers ( 65 miles) northwest of the capital, Dhaka.
The villagers described how floods and erosion of river banks have forced them to leave their ancestral homes and become landless.
