Iraq is demanding Iran provide information about Iraqi artifacts that have been stolen from the country's archaeology sites, the Associated Press reported.

Looters snatched some 15,000 priceless artifacts and smuggled them out of the country in the chaos following the 2003 U.S.-led war.

Jordan recently returned 2,466 artifacts to Iraq. The country has also received more than 700 back from Syria.

Iraq is working with Interpol to track down some 12,000 archaeological pieces that are still missing.

Iraq's government also said in a statement released Sunday that Iran could be invited to participate in maintaining

the ruins of the ancient Persian capital of Ctesiphon, south of Baghdad.
