EU membership of Turkey is very important for the stability of Europe - Rehn

EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn expressed that the EU membership of Turkey is very important for the stability of Europe.

In his speech made at the Foreign Relations Commission of the French Senate, by which Rehn informed in the EU Commission's 2008 - 2009 Enlargement Strategy Document, he generally referred to Turkey and underlined the contribution that will be made by Turkey's full EU membership of Turkey.

Stating that the Caucasian crisis proved once again, Turkey's central role that she played in south-east of Europe, Rehn said "Turkey is very important for the stability, energy needs of Europe and for the effect of Europe in the region, the security of the continent and the dialogue of the civilizations.

Rehn referred to the mediator role that Turkey played for solving the problems in Caucasian, Israel-Palestine and Israel-Syria, and also to the initiatives of Turkey in normalizing the Turkey- Armenia relations.

Rehn also emphasized that Turkey is a key country for the EU's energy security and variety of EU.  /TRCN News/
