Scores of buses, trams and subways were idled Monday in many Italian towns and cities as local public transport workers went on strike, reported dpa.
The 24-hour long stoppage which began Sunday evening was scheduled to end at 2000 GMT.
The country's major unions called the strike following contract disputes.
