UN Security Council has unanimously authorized nations to go ashore in Somalia to fight piracy. The approval comes the same day Somali pirates seized two more ships off the African nation's coast, AP reported.
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was on hand to lead the push for approval of the U.S.-sponsored resolution in the 15-nation council Tuesday.
The U.S. and other proponents had to appease Indonesia and several other council members concerned about the sovereignty of nations to gain passage.
The resolution provides authority for one year for nations with permission from Somalia's government to use "all necessary measures" by land or air to stop anyone using Somali territory to plan, help or carry out acts of piracy and armed robbery at sea.
