Serbia would for the first time chair the Global Ministerial Environment Forum of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) at a session in Kenya in mid- February, the official Tanjug news agency reported on Saturday.
A Serbian delegation, headed by Minister for Environment Oliver Dulic, would chair the session in Kenya's capital Nairobi on Feb. 16-20, Tanjug said, citing sources from the Serbian Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning.
Serbia took over from Hungary the chair of the Governing Council of the Global Ministerial Environment Forum of the UNEP on Jan. 1 this year, as the representative of the Eastern Europe. During its two-year mandate, Serbia will chair the UNEP's top managing body which rallies environment ministers from 58 UN member states.
The UNEP is one of the key agencies within the UN system. It participates in the directing of funds from the Global Environment Fund, Xinhua reported.
